Doug Fite Recognized for Excellence in English Language Arts Instruction
Doug Fite, an English Language Arts teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School, was recently recognized as the January St. Louis Post-Dispatch Teacher of the Month.
Mr. Fite graduated in 2008 with his degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. In his ELA classes, he focuses on helping students engage thoughtfully with a wide range of texts, including fiction, nonfiction, mythology, and Scripture. A seventh-grade unit on The Outsiders is a student favorite, and one of his most meaningful units involves reading the Gospel of Mark.
“As a Catholic school, we try to impart our beliefs when+ and wherever we can,” Mr. Fite said. “You can teach and learn anywhere, but not everywhere can you teach and learn with the impetus of our biblical worldview.”
Through purposeful instruction and faith-centered learning, Mr. Fite reflects the mission of Catholic education within the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
